Ring Ring

Hello this is Glenn speaking..................................

I constructed this ring using a combination of traditional materials and found objects.

I used silver as outer walls and submerged pieces of tin from paint tins.

With no real planning i threw in a cubic zirconia as well.

Initially when i made the ring, i was not sure how i felt about it. Now that I have photographed it and looked at it again,i think there is an interesting tension between the precious metal, and the random floating bits of debri. 

 im contemplating developing it further, by potentially making a series of rings.

It would be nice to expand my designs into other design variations. Ive constructed, belts, buckles and earrings using found objects , but i think to develop a range of rings using found objects combined with silver.

Could be exciting to explore these possibilities further.

Michael Croeser is a South African Artist whose chosen medium is charcoal on paper. He uses found objects Juxtaposed with sourced imagery to create spontaneous compositions. The use of found objects to create compositions form the basis of his drawings. The initiation of his way of working resorts to a type of bricolage whereby mundane objects are placed together in order to create his own unique collages which he photographs using a 35mm camera.The photographs become informed references for his drawing. He then maps out large scale drawings based on the photographed compositions and creates large scale charcoal drawings with maximum attention to shading and detail.

Its easy to mistaken the precision of Croesers drawings for giant digitally printed photographs due to the detail of tone and shading and great attention to detail.

The spontaneity in his starting points relates to my work in the way found objects are sourced and assembled.

Keith Lo Bue - Bricolage

Keith Lo Bue is an American artist jeweller who makes work from found objects and is referred to as a “stuffsmith”.

He creates jewellery by assembling once vital objects. He uses a vast arrangement of bits and pieces. Materials range from dead animals, and tools as well as a selection of abandoned artifacts.

He is drawn to details of  objects as well as detritus of natural and cultural history. He creates what he describes as a type of visual poetry.

He also describes his work as pieces that connect the wearer with other times and places.

Although he does not refer to bricolage as a distinct characteristic in his work, his vast use of objects to create works, tend to deal with the same working process as a bricoleur.

All Good things come to all those that are prepared to wait.

Oh, yes they do. For a long time i wondered if i had abandoned the idea of percussion. Its a passion lodged deep inside. Its more of a feeling. When i get these feelings i want to try and explain them through sound. Its like writing a letter to yourself, and reading it back, and going, What i wrote this? It sounds amazing.

Most of the time its just you clapping back to yourself. Its a huge multidimensional space in your head that you just want to climb into.

I never thought about music much, not to the point that i could vocalize it in words.

Its fun experimenting with sound on garage band, or via electronic means, but you don't get that same feeling from, mechanically doing it yourself.

Anyway, i have been stopping and starting this extra mural activity for some time now, and it feels like, it may be going somewhere. Im not interested in being in a band, for now its a conversation i can have with myself and not be portrayed as a mad man. 

It might be a year, it might be five that i decide to do something with it. For now its a collection of thought that i may use in some work Later. Its a collection of whatever, until i find something to apply it to.

Like the found object, its there, and its tangible,and its an opportunity to consider.

I did have a vision about an installation piece, that waffles in and out of my head, but im not going to go there now.

The best thing that happened to me this week is i traded one of my cam belt belts, for a bass pedal to a kid, who happened to have an extra one.

And thats why all good things come to those who are prepared to wait, Ive been waiting along time.
